As for the vasectomy procedure itself, after your scrotum has been fully numbed with a tiny injection of local anesthesia, our surgeon will make a small incision as a way to access the vas deferens (the little tubes that transport sperm during ejaculation). The vas deferens are then painlessly clipped and cauterized. The small incision in the scrotum is then closed with a few dissolvable stitches or sealed with a little dab of medical glue.

Although a vasectomy is a very quick, safe, and painless procedure, it’s common to experience minor discomfort while you recover. Immediately following the procedure, and for a day or two afterward, you should expect minor discomfort, swelling, and bruising around your scrotal area.
From our experience, we’ve found that our patients are able to minimize post-surgical discomfort with ice packs, OTC pain relievers, and by wearing an athletic supporter to relieve pressure around the area of your incision.

As you recover from your vasectomy, it’s important to avoid ejaculating for at least the first 7 days following your procedure. Most men are able to resume normal sexual activity 10 to 12 days after their procedure.
Once you resume sexual activity, and to prevent pregnancy, we strongly recommend that you continue to use alternative contraception until our lab test confirms the absence of sperm in your semen; this typically takes 20 ejaculations after your vasectomy.
A “scalpel-less” vasectomy is simply a vasectomy that uses scissors, rather than a scalpel, to make the initial incision required to access the vas deferens.
