Vasectomy Procedure in Glendale

Each vasectomy completed in our Glendale clinic, and by one of our expert, board-certified urologic surgeons, follows a specific vasectomy process carefully designed to support your family planning needs starting right from your initial phone call.

During your initial phone call, our caring and committed team will share important information about your upcoming vasectomy, including how to prepare, what to expect during the procedure and recovery, follow-up care instructions, and information on the cost of the procedure. In addition to sharing this important information with you, we ensure that you never feel rushed and provide as much time as you need to ask questions and share any concerns that you might have.

Your actual vasectomy is an outpatient procedure that takes just about 30 minutes and is completed right here in our modern and well-equipped vasectomy clinic.

Once you’ve been completely numbed, our expert surgeons will utilize a minimally invasive technique designed to minimize post-vasectomy surgical pain and recovery time. After making a tiny incision in the scrotum, our surgeon will snip and cauterize the vas deferens (the tiny tubes located in your scrotum responsible for transporting sperm from the testes to the ureter during ejaculation). The small incision is then stitched with a single dissolvable stitch.

Vasectomy Recovery

Completely recovering from your vasectomy usually takes one to two weeks. However, while recovering, most of our patients can return to work and resume activities 1 to 2 days after their vasectomy.

As you’ll learn in detail during your initial consultation, it’s normal to experience minor discomfort and some slight swelling immediately after your vasectomy procedure. Most men find that they can manage this discomfort and reduce any swelling by using ice packs, over-the-counter pain medication, and with the support provided by wearing an athletic supporter.

While you recover from your vasectomy, we recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least a week as a way to reduce unnecessary strain and to allow the area to completely heal.

Vasectomy Cost in Arizona

The out-of-pocket cost of a vasectomy in Arizona is often dependent on the type of coverage, deductibles, and co-pays associated with your health insurance plan.

Our team at Purely Vasectomies understands that cost is often an important factor when making the decision to have a vasectomy. To help alleviate any concerns we approach our procedural costs in a very open and completely transparent process and share all of this information with you during your initial phone call.

We also understand the difficult, and often frustrating, process of working with health insurance companies when attempting to determine your individual healthcare coverage and benefits. To ensure this process doesn’t hinder your progress, our experts are happy to work with you and your health insurance company to alleviate any stress associated with paperwork or processes that might be required by your insurance provider.

Honoring our commitment to making your vasectomy process as comfortable and efficient as possible, our ability to accept multiple forms of payment is one more step that we take to ensure you are able to eliminate any financial barriers and remain focused on meeting your family’s reproductive health goals.

Is a Vasectomy painful?

A vasectomy is typically a minimally painful procedure. Since your vasectomy procedure is performed while the area is numbed with a local anesthetic, there shouldn’t be any pain other than slight pressure and minor discomfort during the actual procedure itself.

As you recover, it’s common to experience slight pain and swelling the first 1-2 days after your vasectomy. To help manage any associated discomfort, we recommend wearing an athletic supporter, taking over-the-counter pain medication, and applying ice packs.
When Can I Resume Sexual Activity After A Vasectomy?
You will be able to resume sexual activity 10 to 12 days following your vasectomy.

However, a vasectomy is not immediately effective in preventing pregnancy. You will need to continue to use alternative contraception until all sperm has been cleared from your semen, which typically requires 50 post-vasectomy ejaculations.

It’s important to continue using contraction until lab testing confirms the absence of sperm in your semen. Once that has been confirmed, you can safely assume that your vasectomy is complete and will serve as an effective method of birth control.

What Is A “Scalpel-Less” Vasectomy?

A “scalpel-less’ ‘ vasectomy is not much different from a regular vasectomy procedure. When our surgeons perform a “scalpel-less” vasectomy, they simply use scissors to puncture through the scrotum instead of a scalpel.

Both of these procedures, whether using a scalpel or scissors, result in an incision that is required to locate the vas deferens.

Since we offer both traditional and scalpel-less vasectomies here at Purely Vasectomies, your surgeon will typically use the option that results in the smallest incision for the specific patient.
