Following your initial comprehensive consultation, which also takes just about 30 minutes, our team will prep you for your vasectomy starting with a tiny injection that will fully numb the area of the scrotum where the incision will occur. Understanding that some of our patients might need a little more support to prepare for their procedure, we also offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) as extra sedation.
Once you are fully numbed and completely comfortable, our board-certified urologic surgeon will make a very small incision in the upper portion of the scrotum to access the vas deferens (these are the tiny tubes that transport sperm during ejaculation). The vas deferens are then painlessly cut and cauterized. The incision is then quickly stitched up, completing your vasectomy procedure.

This discomfort is best managed with ice, OTC pain relievers, and by wearing an athletic supporter to relieve pressure around the area of your incision.
Most men find they are able to head back to work and resume light activities one to two days after the vasectomy, although strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are best avoided for at least a week in order to allow the area to completely heal.
