Vasectomy Recovery
While most men only experience minor discomfort following their procedure, it is important to follow a short recovery period to ensure proper healing.
Immediately following your vasectomy, it’s common to experience some mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the scrotal area that typically lasts between one to two days. This discomfort can be managed with ice, over-the-counter pain relievers, and by wearing an athletic supporter to relieve pressure around the incision area.
Most men find they go back to work and resume light activities within one to two days after their vasectomy. However, intense exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least a week to allow the area to heal completely.
Although you will be able to resume sexual activity 10 to 12 days after your vasectomy, it’s important to use alternative contraception until your follow-up appointment confirms the absence of sperm in your semen.
As part of your initial consultation, we will share and review our detailed post-operative recovery plans and support process with you. Nearly all our patients fully recover and resume all normal activities in under two weeks.
